Letter from the Church Council
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
In 1 Peter 2:9, we read, “But you are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light”
For a Christian, to be chosen is the most strength- giving truth because God’s choice is eternal and unchangeable, giving us peace no matter what we face. The Church is now God’s chosen people. This choosing is not because we are better than others or because we would respond to Him. This choosing is a work totally of God’s grace.
Christians being royal priests represent the fact that we have been united in Christ. We are His body, and whatever glory Christ receives we receive as well. Our role as priest is to draw others to worship Him, wherever God has placed you, in the workplace, church or family, you must take your position as a priest and intercede for those in a position to make goldy decisions, and for the light of the gospel to go forth.
As a family of believers, we are for God’s pleasure. In the same way that whatever you own, you own for your pleasure because it gives you joy, God chose you for the purpose of His pleasure. In Zephaniah 3:17 we read “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but He will rejoice over you with singing”. This is because we are God’s inheritance, His own possession.
In this month of November, as we reflect on the past 10 months let us be reminded that as Christians, we are a chosen people and our ultimate identity comes not from the world, but from God. Regardless of our denominational, racial and cultural differences, we are one in Christ. We are called to embrace our identity in Christ, serving others, fostering unity and sharing the Gospel and affirming the value of all people.
